Grants & Economic Impact
The Research Technologies Division of UITS participates in and leads grants, which have impact on the scholarly productivity and innovation of Indiana University (see lists of publications for more details), the development of the 21st century workforce in the State of Indiana (see information about outreach activities for more details), and on the economics of Indiana University and the State of Indiana. Since 1997, grants secured by the Research Technologies Division of UITS in collaboration with IU faculty and librarians include:
- Hardware grants with a total retail value of more than $5,000,000
- Grant funding directly to UITS of more than $10,000,000
- Software grants and site licenses have allowed IU to achieve a cost avoidance of more than $3,000,000.
Information about current and past grant activities and the impact of information technology on the State Economy is available:
- Current grant-funded activities in which Research Technologies is involved
- Completed grant-funded activities in which Research Technologies was involved
- The direct and indirect impacts of information technology on the Indiana Economy
Grants in hand are of course important, but competing effectively for additional grants is critical. UITS has posted online (accessible only from within the IU network) a Facilities Statement describing IU’s advanced cyberinfrastructure, suitable for inclusion as an appendix in grant proposals.
IU’s future grant competitiveness is strongly influenced by the diligence of every researcher in acknowledging past grants. Anyone who has acquired an account on IU research systems this century has agreed to cite the relevant grants that support the IU Information Technology infrastructure; details are available online. Additional resources in support of the pursuit of grants is available online at research.indiana.edu.
